This honeymoon was seriously a dream for us! It was the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, which is actually what we wanted. We ate amazing food, soaked up some time by the sea, and explored. I absolutely loved this trip, and although the travel time is long (very, very long)- it was so worth it. Even though January is rainy season in Bali, it really wasn’t an issue for us! It rained during the morning a couple of days, but we always ended up still getting sun on those days! Most days it didn’t rain at all, or it only rained at night!

We planned this all on our own (I have been getting that question a ton!), just by doing lots of research and deciding on the vibes we wanted. Each part of Bali is a little different, so deciding what type of trip/activities you want to do definitely helps. We knew we wanted to start off with some beach time to really relax after the wedding, and then move on to a little more exploring because we both can go a little stir crazy!

I recommend getting an Excel doc started, jotting down notes of different resorts/hotels and parts of Bali and going from there before booking!

First stop: Uluwatu

Our time in Uluwatu was straight out of a dream! We stayed at The Ungasan Clifftop Resort in an Ocean View villa. The food, the staff, the villa, the views were out of this world! Breakfast was unbelievable- you can choose to eat in your villa, have a floating breakfast in the pool (hi, breakfast goals), or eat in the restaurant of the resort. You get a full spread and a choice of a main course. We also loved the dinner options at the resort! The crispy prawn salad was my favorite dish.

Side note: we saw SO many monkeys coming by our villa almost every day! It was wild. See my Bali Instagram story highlight for more!

This resort is connected to Sundays Beach Club, which is a highly recommended spot to spend the day at. You can pay an entrance fee to get in each day if you are not staying at the resort (with the entrance fee you get a bean bag seat and umbrella), but because we were at the Ungasan we had daily access and a guaranteed umbrella/lounge chair spot! It was so perfect- the food at the beach was actually so good, it was a clean beach, and the water was like bath water. We would spend all day there swimming, reading, and snacking, then head up to the resort for dinner!

Something to keep in mind is that Uluwatu isn’t exactly easy to walk around and explore. We did have a driver take us into town a few times to try some food spots I had on my list, but it there weren’t really side walks to walk around and explore and it could sometimes be difficult to get a taxi back. We sometimes had the restaurant we were at call us a taxi, or we would pay our driver to wait for us. Just something to note if you’re looking for that type of trip where you can walk around town all day! Here were our favorite places worth going into town for:

  • Drifter Cafe (my favorite- for breakfast or dinner)
  • The Cashew Tree (cutest vibes and delish plant-based food with some meat options, too)
  • The Loft (breakfast, lunch, or dinner)
  • Coco and Poke (connected to a cool beach club called Finn’s)

Seminyak:

We decided to stop here on our way to Ubud- it wasn’t exactly on the way but we wanted to check out the area since it’s a popular area. We had a driver from our next hotel in Ubud pick u sup at our resort in Ulutwatu, and we told them ahead of time we would like to stop in Seminyak. We paid him per hour so that he could pick us up and take us to the next resort when we were ready!

To be honest, I could have skipped Seminyak. I have seen other people stay at some cute boutique hotels in Seminyak, and they definitely have some good food spots, but it was super busy and hard to walk around for just a day trip. Just felt a little too chaotic for the vibes we wanted for the honeymoon.

If I were to go back, I would probably spend a day in Canggu instead of Seminyak. We did have a really good meal at Kynd Community, so if you are in Seminyak definitely stop there for some healthy and Insta-worthy food!

Final Stop: Ubud

Ubud was so much fun! There are some breathtaking views of lush greenery, and we were also able to explore the streets more here!

We stayed at The Viceroy and loved it! They have an amazing garden/greenhouse on the property where they grow a ton of their produce, so I was all about that! One of the chefs walked us around the garden telling me everything they grow because he saw me admiring it, and I was so impressed! I ate the tofu veggie curry basically every day while we stayed here- it was SO good. We loved the infinity pool in our villa, as well as the little nook connected to the pool for reading and relaxing. The room was really spacious and super clean!

Tegallalang Rice Terrace. Top sold out (Faithful The Brand), jeans linked here.

We spent about an hour at the Tegallalang Rice Terrace one day- it was stunning. I recommend going early- it was super peaceful and not crowded at all.

We also headed to the gorgeous Tibumana Waterfall early one morning! I definitely recommend getting there by 9AM (earlier if you can). We were the first ones there for 20 minutes or so, and had the waterfall to ourselves! It was breathtaking- the walk to the waterfall and the swimming, all so stunning! Bring a suit and a towel!

Peanut butter and jelly smoothie from Alchemy Bali.

We were able to easily get a driver each day from the resort to take us into town, as well as the rice fields. Often we were able to just schedule a time with the driver to pick us back up since we didn’t hav cell service. We also took a taxi a few times, as it’s much easier to get one than it was for us in Uluwatu.

I recommending having a driver or taxi take out into town to one of the cafes below, and then just walking around! The streets are really fun to walk, especially the area near Kismet cafe.

Our favorite places we ate in Ubud:

  • Alchemy (raw/vegan, cute vibes, little store at the front with snacks and things)
  • Atman Cafe (vegan Pad Thai)
  • Kismet (Cashew milk lattes; great starting point to walk the streets and explore)
  • Suka Espresso (brunch or dinner)
  • Kokolato (vegan ice cream and gluten free cones!)

The last activity we did was walk the Campuhan Ridge Walk on our last morning. It was so pretty and good little exercise. After this we spent the rest of our last day just relaxing at the hotel before all the travel! Pro tip: give yourself ample time to get to your flight home. The customs at the Bali airport were…unorganized to say the least. Major headache so leave early!

Packing Essentials:

All outfits in photos above are linked in the caption!

Some of my other essentials:

  • Disinfecting wipes for the plane (I literally clean every surface we would touch on the plant before sitting down, as well as wipe down our electronics after the flight)
  • Lululemon Align joggers for travel, linked here
  • Light, flowy tops and dresses- it gets HOT! I wore this set a couple of times!
  • Digestive enzymes (for those with sensitive stomachs)
  • Kindle (I did a ton of reading on the beach!)
  • Sunscreen
  • Coconut oil packets for skin and hair

  1. Erica says:

Love this Bali guide! What airline did you fly and how was that experience? Bali has been on my list of places to go for a long time! So would love more details around you flights that you booked and who was it through? Thanks!!

    • Mia Zarlengo says:

Hi Erica! We flew through Korean Air- it basically was our only option so I don’t have much to compare it too. I would say it was pretty average- not an out of this world experience but luggage was not lost and we felt safe! If you are able to upgrade, that definitely helps with the long flight!

  2. Taylor says:

Did you get the typhoid vaccination before traveling to Bali? I’ve been getting a lot of mixed info on if it’s needed or not. Love your guide and so excited to go myself in May!

  3. Jill says:

I’m planning my honeymoon in Bali in September and this guide is making me so excited!! How many days did you spend in Uluwatu and Ubud, and did you feel like you had enough time in each? We’ll have 10 days total and I’m thinking we can go to 3-4 places on the island but I also don’t to feel rushed!

    • Mia Zarlengo says:

We had 10 days total as well! We did 5 days in each– I could have spent a day or 2 less in Ubud for sure. Uluwatu we were so happy at our resort an don the beach but if I had to take 1 day off to go somewhere else I think I could have definitely!

  4. Marcy says:

Did you have a layover somewhere in asia before arriving to Bali? If so how long was your layover? Planning our honeymoon there now and hoping to get an idea of how much time we’ll need for an intl layover!
